We’ve compiled a few tips for you to take into account when choosing the right color for the room that holds your throne.

When brainstorming about paint colors for bathrooms, you should also think about what the overall décor of the room will be. You don’t want to be too matchy-matchy, but unless you are going for the shabby chic effect, it’s important to have an idea of what look you are going for.

Neutrals

Neutral paint colors for bathrooms are a great way to keep things clean and simple. Nowadays there are about a zillion shades of white, cream, ivory, tan, beige, you name it.

The spectrum of whites is great if you have a sunny bathroom, it can open up a small room and give it a spacious, spa-like effect. Whites go especially well with classic, period décor, or country cottage accents.

If natural colors are your thing (granola, anyone?), you can create a calm, soothing respite by using browns and earthy tan colors combined with decorative elements from nature. Check out this bathroom oasis from Benjamin Moore that uses creams, greys, and browns.

Brights

So you are an extrovert, and you want your bathroom to show it! By using fun, exciting paint colors for bathrooms, you can really let your personality shine. Bright colors are also great for the kids (or the kid in you).

It’s great to think outside the box – so don’t just look to bathroom ideas for suggestions. Check out these bright and energetic colors that are used in other areas of the house.

Pastels

Is your favorite book Sense and Sensibility? Uh, probably not – but maybe it’s your wife’s fave. If so, there is a good chance that using pastels in paint colors for bathrooms are the way to go. Lilac and periwinkle don’t just sound soft and pretty – they are. Check out other soft pinks, purples, and blues to create the perfect bathroom.

Chalkboard Paint

Chalkboard paint? In the bathroom? Really? Yes! Right off the top of our heads we can thing of two instances in which this idea would be awesome.

  • Bath time with the kids (and all the dogs/cats/parrots) always turns into a total nightmare. This is a great time to have chalkboard paint on the walls. It’s fun, can be used for homework or reminders, and is super easy to clean what with the tsunamis coming from the bathtub.

  • You are a hipster and you want your bathroom to show it. Dog-eared books, mason jars, and irony just aren’t cutting it. Try chalkboard paint and you won’t be disappointed.

Simple Touch Ups

If you don’t have the time or energy for a big paint makeover, a fun thing to do is touch up the cabinets or furniture in your bathroom. This is a cool opportunity to use some of the bright, energetic paint colors for bathrooms we talked about earlier.

Since touch ups are pretty easy to do, they can be done more often – so if you change your mind all the time or just like a change of scenery every now and then, this is your time to go wild. A quick paint job on a cabinet or vanity can be done on a leisurely Sunday morning, leaving you time to clean up and catch the game. Can’t get much better than that.
